EDInnovators Collective Spotlight: Sown to Grow
Creating safe and accessible spaces for every student to feel truly known can be transformational. EDInnovators Collective member Sown To Grow is making this vision a reality by providing easy-to-use, engaging tools that empower students to share their experiences, build connections with educators, and receive the proactive support they need—academically, socially, and emotionally.
Sown To Grow’s approach is a simple yet powerful wellbeing check-in tool, seamlessly integrated into classrooms as part of a broader system of support. Unlike traditional SEL assessments that capture a single moment in time, this tool provides real-time, actionable insights—helping educators move beyond observation and directly respond to student needs. With just five minutes a week, students reflect on their skills and experiences, while teachers receive immediate data to guide interventions, strengthen relationships, and create a culture of trust.
Sown To Grow’s impact extends beyond individual classrooms. Schools and districts use the platform to inform MTSS strategies, identify trends at both the micro and macro levels, and ensure that student voice drives decision-making. In Oakland Unified, where behavioral and mental health staff are limited, Sown To Grow helped educators proactively support students, reducing the number of crises reaching Tier 2 and 3 levels. By giving students a voice in their own wellbeing, schools can better allocate resources, reduce bias in support systems, and foster a collaborative, student-centered approach to success.
Sown To Grow is a partner in transformation—working with schools and districts to integrate their platform into existing support structures, amplify community-driven goals, and create sustainable, student-focused change. Learn more about them and all of our EDInnovators Collective here.
